One man was killed and another was taken into custody over the weekend in Colorado after an argument over a bottle of spicy sauce erupted into a violent and eventually lethal rage, according to Mile High State police.
A rather brief press release from the Denver Police Department on Monday afternoon stated that George Vigil, 19, is charged with one count of second-degree murder.
A probable cause affidavit states that although there are still many unanswered questions regarding the case, the defendant knew the victim who was fatally stabbed.
At Mile High Stadium, home of the Denver Broncos football team in the National Football League, there was a house on Federal Boulevard close to Empower Field where the incident happened.
The woman on the other end said, “Hello, I have someone stabbed.” The affidavit states, “Voices could be heard yelling in the background of the call.”
Along with “two gentlemen and a female, and one gentleman with a knife,” the woman claimed to be with the dispatcher. According to her description, the man was hurt “on the left side of his ribs.”
“I just need somebody here right away,” the 911 caller went on, now begging for assistance. “We urgently need an ambulance to arrive here. presently. presently. Please help, he’s bleeding to death.
“Who did this to him?” the dispatcher then inquired.
In response, the woman gave the defendant’s complete name.
The woman said, “George Vigil.”
According to the affidavit, responding police evaluated the situation as medical personnel took care of the victim.
According to what the police wrote, the victim had “two separate sharp force injuries.” The individual sustained two stab wounds: one to his left back and one to his left rib cage.
After being taken to the Denver Health Medical Center, he was declared dead at 5:59 p.m. due to his injuries.
Police claim Vigil made an unprompted statement to them when he was being arrested in the extensively redacted court record; however, the full sentence has been suppressed.
The law enforcement account continues, “George VIGIL’s hands and clothing were stained with apparent fresh blood. He had no visible open or bleeding injuries to his person. As officers took him into custody and were walking him to the vehicle, he asked for an attorney.”
The victim and Vigil have a relationship of some kind, according to a witness whose name is also withheld from the affidavit. The witness told police that the victim had “arrived to visit as he usually does more than one time per week” earlier that evening to “check on” someone or something.
The witness went on to say that the fight and subsequent violence were specifically related to where a bottle of hot sauce was kept.
“[The man] wanted to make a sandwich and asked where the hot sauce was,” according to the affidavit. “George VIGIL stated that the bottle was in his bedroom upstairs. An argument erupted between family members over the bottle of hot sauce, which resulted in both [redacted] and [redacted] physically separating [the man] and George VIGIL away from each other. [The man] verbally challenged George VIGIL to fight by making statements to the effect of ‘Let’s take this outside,’ and began approaching him again.”
According to the witness, she observed the defendant “swing an arm” when he approached, and the police recorded this as one of the fatal blows. The witness said that he “often carried a switchblade type knife in his front pants pocket” to police officer Vigil.

The man then, according to the affidavit, “fell to the ground and began bleeding profusely,” which prompted the 911 call.
Upon Vigil’s initial court appearance on Monday, a detention order without bond was issued. The defendant’s booking photo was provided by the police, but his name is not visible on the Denver County Jail’s list of inmates. There is currently a dearth of other information regarding the case as well.
