Authorities said that an elderly citizen from Florida was taken into custody after he lassoed a nine-foot alligator, tied it to a railing, and let it go away.
A criminal accusation against Robert Colin, 71, for unlawfully endangering an alligator was filed, according to an affidavit that clickorlando.com was able to get.
Sheriff’s deputies claim that he tethered the gator to a handrail above a canal in his hometown of Cape Canaveral after lassoing it around its upper jaw with a nylon rope.
Deputies reported that Colin strangely called them at 7:30 a.m. to say that he had discovered the reptile tied up and had then left the area. But according to investigators, surveillance footage from a nearby SpaceX building shows Colin making a loop with the rope to catch the gator.

Colin was charged with illegally killing, possessing, or collecting alligators, and he was detained at his house that same day.
Colin informed that he had placed a clothesline in the canal to safeguard the turtles that he and others feed. This was done after he posted the $2,500 bond. Three years ago, Colin claimed to have spotted and reported alligators in the canal.
Colin said, “I tied a line here because I saw a snout coming out of this pipe. He hooked his upper jaw on it and he tried to take off, but it was already tied here.”
An outlet was informed by a sheriff’s office representative that the gator was eventually put to death.
