Concerning the murders of her grandparents, Jalisa Hill made an appearance in Broward bail court on Friday morning.

At her Fort Lauderdale home on Southwest 30th Terrace, Hill, 34, is charged of first-degree murder after authorities claim she “worked in conjunction” with her ex-boyfriend, Maurice Anthony Newson, to kill her octogenarian grandparents, Major and Claudette Melvin.

Their vehicle had been stolen, and the two had been found dead from gunshot wounds. The fatal shooting, according to the police, took place on March 22. In late August, Newson, 30, was taken into custody by the authorities in connection with the murder case.

His red Ford Fusion was taken from their driveway after the Melvins passed away, and it was taken as the first focus of the inquiry. That automobile had a connection to Newson. After a guy saw the car on the television, he tipped off authorities, and around two weeks after the killings, it was found in a Wilton Manors tow yard.

According to the police in Newson’s prior arrest warrants, Hill willingly took a polygraph exam and was found to be “untruthful on the question of being involved in the death of her grandparents.”

Hill had informed authorities following the murder that she was the heir to her grandparents’ house, according to court records that were acquired on Friday.

She lived in their midst. Hill penned a note that is mentioned in the court filings.

“Jalisa stated that she wrote the note at the beginning of the year to have a goal,” according to the court documents. “This note showed a goal to fix up and renovate a home that, at the time, did not belong to her.”

She would subsequently admit, according to police, that “she was never in line to receive her grandparents’ home.” According to the authorities, she concealed her grandparents’ passing when submitting an insurance claim for their pilfered vehicle.

Detectives have also learned that on April 27, Hill wired $1,000 to Newson through a middleman. Dennis Parker, a kid of the Melvins, had predicted that Newson would “sing like a mockingbird” after his incarceration in August.

As of Friday afternoon, Hill was being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.
