Authorities said that before dawn on Saturday, a group of friends played a practical joke on a gun-wielding homeowner in Maine, resulting in the shooting and wounding of a teenager.

At about one in the morning, the teens were playing a game of ding-dong-ditch when Vincent Martin, 30, allegedly opened fire on them, according to allegations from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

According to News Center Maine, Martin opened his door after the teenagers knocked on his house on Waterford Road and ran away. He then fired multiple shots, hitting one of the jokers in the right calf.

Officials withheld the adolescent’s age and gender from the public, but she arrived at the hospital in stable condition. Deputies discovered a bloodstain on the road upon their arrival at the site and took Martin into custody.

According to the station, he is being charged with two misdemeanor counts of firing a firearm in addition to two felonies for enhanced aggravated assault and aggravated reckless conduct.

A fresh variation on the ding-dong-ditch has emerged as a popular TikTok craze, when teenagers participate in the “Door Knock” challenge, which involves beating or kicking a door and then fleeing.

A Texas police station issued a warning to children earlier this year about the social media trend, stating that a homeowner might mistake the prank for a break-in and open fire.
