This facility, which has been neglected for quite some time and is now known as the Annie Lytle Elementary School, can be found within the city of Jacksonville.
This is without a doubt one of the most eerie abandoned buildings in Florida; it is rife with dilapidated buildings, homeless people living there illegally, and there are rumors that it is haunted.
The building that currently serves as the school was first erected in 1915 and at the time under the name Public School Number Four. For the next four decades, until the construction of the motorway system in the 1950s, the elementary school was a thriving institution. The intersection of Interstates 95 and 10 is about one hundred feet away from the school.
Because of the noise from the nearby freeway, being inside the school was nearly intolerable. In 1960, it was finally put out of business, and for a few years after that, it was used as a storage facility before being abandoned entirely to fall into disrepair.
In the 1990s, there was a fire that broke out in the school, which ultimately led to the collapse of the roof. For many years, people have hypothesized about what started the fire. Some people assume that Satanists were responsible for it, while others simply lay it up to the mischievous acts of teenagers.
To this day, there are a number of scary legends that surround the school, including one that claims the principal is a cannibal and another that claims an evil janitor used to cook pupils alive in the boiler room.
Regardless of whether or not there is any kernel of truth to these tales, one thing is for certain: the appearance of the school has not changed at all; it is still utterly terrifying.
