After adopting dogs and allegedly killing them, a man in Texas was detained and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals.
On October 3, the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple dogs going missing from nearby residences. According to one of the callers, there was a suspected dog thief in the neighborhood.
Deputies visited the residence of Stuart Duncan Hammonds and his girlfriend while conducting a canvass of the Simms neighborhood. According to KSLA, they smelled what seemed to be animal feces.
Around the house and barn, deputies discovered seven animal carcasses.
Twelve of the skeletal remains they discovered were recognized as belonging to dogs. A few of those dog carcasses showed head injuries, which could indicate that they had been shot.
When Hammonds got into a heated argument with his girlfriend, he killed four of the dogs, according to the sheriff’s office, but a witness told them that he killed all twelve.
