During her break in Maryland, a grocery store clerk believed she had won $50 on a scratch-off lottery ticket. Upon verifying, she noticed that the award had increased significantly, so she asked a colleague to corroborate.
In fact, the mother of two won the top prize of $150,000, according to a news release from the Maryland Lottery dated June 20.
“I thought, ‘This can’t be real,'” she stated to lottery officials.
The Salisbury woman called her husband to share the news once she had verified her award.
He stated to lottery officials that, “It was so hard to believe that she won, because I am the one who plays. I had to see it for myself, so I immediately drove to her work.”

She stated he gave her a bear hug when he arrived. They were eventually able to travel to the lottery headquarters to pick up the prize a few weeks later.
The lottery winner informed officials that she would save the winnings. In the $150,000 Extreme scratch-off game, which made its debut in March, she won the first of five top prizes, according to the Maryland Lottery.
In Salisbury, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, she purchased her ticket at Union Latina.
