According to Arizona authorities, a 73-year-old man attempted to drive into the lodge’s building, inflicting injuries on an estimated 30 individuals.
After the car crashed into the Apache Junction Elks Lodge building on Saturday night, Thomas Edward Kain, 73, was taken into custody, according to the police. Police stated that alcohol “was a contributing factor,” but they gave no further information.
“This accident shows just how dangerous it can be to drink and drive,” Apache Junction police stated. “Alcohol impairs your ability to drive safely by reducing your reaction time and decision-making skills.”
Police reported several injuries of varied degrees of severity but no deaths. At least ten individuals were sent to nearby hospitals.
One individual’s status was critical yet stable. According to authorities, five other persons drove themselves to hospitals while fifteen more received minor injuries treatment at the spot.
Kain was detained in Pinal County, according to jail records. He didn’t pick up the phone right away, and on Sunday there were no online court documents accessible.
