Dump Truck Tragically Runs Over Mother With Stroller in Miami, Baby Hospitalized

A tragic incident occurred on Biscayne Boulevard in Miami’s Edgewater neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon, where a mother pushing her baby in a stroller was fatally struck by a dump truck.

The accident occurred around 1 p.m. at the Northeast 22nd Street intersection. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Jaklin Sabag, became pinned underneath the truck. The baby boy was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Reportedly, the woman, the baby, and another pedestrian crossed the road outside the crosswalk in front of stopped traffic.

The truck driver, unable to see them, moved forward and accidentally ran over the mother. Fortunately, the stroller was spared in the incident.

A spokesperson from the Miami Police Department mentioned that the baby remained “alert and crying” after the crash, and another pedestrian quickly retrieved the 6-month-old from the stroller.

Authorities temporarily closed a section of Biscayne Boulevard to investigate the accident, reopening it later in the afternoon.

Police stated that the truck driver is unlikely to face charges, as surveillance video supported his description of the events.

The police emphasized that this particular stretch of Biscayne Boulevard in Edgewater is considered one of the most hazardous for pedestrians in the city.

In response, they announced heightened enforcement efforts targeting both drivers who fail to yield and pedestrians who cross outside designated crosswalks.
