A woman previously arrested for credit card fraud is now facing 20 criminal charges in Coconut Creek for exploiting an elderly individual.
Brittany Chenrick, aged 33 and residing in Boca Raton, is accused of multiple felonies involving the exploitation of disabled adults over 60 years old. Her charges include misusing their identification and stealing from them.
During a recent court appearance, Chenrick was denied bond on all charges, which encompass possession of fentanyl, two counts of grand theft, two counts of criminal use of personal ID information without consent, fraudulent use of a credit card, possession of another person’s ID, and illegal use of a credit card.
She also faces two counts of grand theft and ten counts of fraudulent ID use without consent. Chenrick has a history of prior legal troubles, including arrests in December at a U-Haul Moving & Storage facility in Coconut Creek and a more recent arrest in Coral Springs for grand theft related to an alleged credit card fraud incident in October 2022 at a Walgreens store on West Sample Road.
According to an arrest report, the October incident involved a complex scheme featuring fraudulent transactions, stolen identities, and the possession of fentanyl.
Store employees became suspicious when Chenrick and an unidentified male spent an unusually long time in the store, making multiple transactions totaling over $1,800.
The male companion fled the scene before officers arrived, further raising suspicions. Chenrick continued shopping anxiously and appeared visibly nervous as officers approached her in the checkout line with a cart full of various items.
Upon request, Chenrick handed over more than ten cards, primarily gift cards, and four Florida Office of Self-Sufficiency cards bearing her name.
However, store employees signaled to deputies that she was being dishonest and had used different cards for the transactions. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that none of the cards used in the transactions belonged to Chenrick.
She claimed one card in her purse was given to her by her “sugar daddy,” but the card’s owner was a black female with no connection to Chenrick, and she had not authorized any charges on her card. The victim confirmed she still had her cards, indicating that the ones used in the transactions were illegal duplicates.
As the evidence against Chenrick mounted, a search of her purse led to the discovery of fentanyl. She is currently held without bond at the Paul Rein Detention Facility.
