BAY COUNTY, Fla. — Rumors are circulating on social media about another “beach takeover” occurring in June, which would be comparable to the one that occurred in March 2022.
People are encouraged to visit the beach on the third weekend of June, which also happens to be Father’s Day Weekend, according to the postings that have been shared on various social media platforms.
According to statements made by Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford, many individuals from the Biloxi and Montgomery regions are involved in the message.
Ford said that members of the Biloxi media had spoken with him twice about the tweets last week.
He claimed that he and Panama City Police Chief J.R. Talamantez are also proactively alerting the event organizers about the costs associated with unexpected special event zones.
According to Ford, “I know, Chief Talamantez at the beach has reached out and has talked to some of those promoters and has put them on notice, just as we discussed.”
“Listen, if you’re going to be marketing this event and we’re going to be creating special event zones, then the law in Florida gives us the right to sue you and get all of this money back. On top of that, I believe that number would easily be in the six digits on a weekend such as today.”
Ford said that the relatively new regulations governing special events seem to be functioning well.
Several promoters have already announced on their websites that they would not be holding their takeover events.
Ford assured everyone that the local law enforcement officials would be ready in any case.
