When a lady he met on a dating app showed up at her Iowa home, he was arrested by police, according to the authorities. She had called 911 after developing “cold feet” and had made up claims against him, including that he was a domestic abuser and that she was expecting his child.
Online court records indicate that 18-year-old Sumaya Thomas is charged with a misdemeanor of creating a false report during a 911 call.
A complaint and affidavit state that Thomas called the police on June 16 at 12:11 a.m., claiming her aggressive ex-boyfriend was outside her house. This led to the discovery of the case.
She was allegedly screaming in the 911 call that he was going to “hit, punch, kick, and stab her” in the menacing texts that he was sending her.
According to court filings, she also claimed that she had known the man for two years, that he wouldn’t leave her alone, and that she was expecting his child.
“She reported him threatening to cause harm to her,” according to the court documents.
The individual in question was found leaving the North Liberty, just north of Iowa City, residence where police were called, according to court filings.
Court filings indicated that he showed the police the text messages to prove to them that he had spoken with her a week earlier on a dating app before they started chatting.
“The conversation showed he was being honest and he really did just meet the female,” as per the court documents.

Thomas was also contacted by investigators. She eventually acknowledged setting up the fraudulent reports after being questioned repeatedly because she “got cold feet,” according to court filings.
According to court filings, she told detectives she didn’t think the police would help otherwise and made up the tale in a 911 call, stating she thought they wouldn’t have taken any action if she had just called regularly.
Because of her fraudulent claims, the unidentified man had been held for more than an hour, according to police.
Thomas was arrested for two misdemeanor counts of false reporting, but he was eventually released from the Johnson County Jail.
