According to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, a “heating pad malfunction” caused a fire to break out and destroy many units at an apartment complex located in the Northwest portion of Jacksonville on Friday afternoon. As a result, two people were forced to relocate.

Cascade Apartments, which can be found at 2114 Kings Park Drive, was the location of the fire.

According to the Jacksonville Fire Department, there were no injuries recorded, however one apartment unit was “completely damaged.” Reports from first responders indicate that the Red Cross is providing assistance to the two adults who were forced to relocate.

First Coast News was also informed by JFRD that air meters and fans were installed in units that were connected to one another in order to conduct carbon dioxide tests.

Due to the fact that the apartment building was made of concrete, there were no problems or worries about the fire spreading, according to the JFRD authorities.
