A woman from Tampa, Jasmine Weber, who used to work as a claims adjuster in west-central Florida, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison. She was accused of helping plan several armed robberies by misusing her position.
Jasmine Weber, 29, was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty on January 6, 2023, for conspiring to commit a Hobbs Act robbery. The Hobbs Act makes it illegal to engage in actual or attempted robbery or extortion that affects interstate or foreign commerce.
Prosecutors claimed that between December 2020 and April 2021, Weber knew about a group planning armed robberies in various Florida counties. These counties included Hillsborough, Lee, Pasco, and Polk. The group allegedly posed as law enforcement officers during the robberies.
Weber, using her job as a claims adjuster, reportedly researched potential victims on her LexisNexis account and shared their home addresses with the thieves. The group then carried out the robberies, during which some victims were assaulted, pistol-whipped, and shot.
Additionally, Weber was accused of purchasing equipment for the co-conspirators, such as sheriff’s vests, law enforcement patches, and light bars, to be used in the robberies.
As reported by WFLA-TV, five individuals have been accused of committing crimes. They are Reginald “Rudy” Roberts, 22, from Lakeland; Nathaniel “Nate” Keith Carr, 28, from Riverdale; Daniel “D-Jack” Jackson, 29, from Winter Haven; Chrishawn “Baby” De’Earl Butler, 22, from Brooksville; and Darius “Toot” Hudson, 43, from Arcadia.
The television station mentioned that these men were formally charged on April 26.
Weber “knew that members of this conspiracy would carry out their crimes by pretending to be law enforcement officers,” according to the plea deal.
“The defendant was aware of this conspiracy, and voluntarily participated in helping to accomplish its goal,” prosecutors wrote .
