A Florida sheriff’s officer raced into a sizable pond on Tuesday night to save a missing 5-year-old autistic boy who had escaped from his family’s house. The moment is captured on heart-stopping bodycam footage.

According to the footage, a Volusia County sheriff’s deputy heard a small child cry out while he was surveying a forested area near a body of water in the city of Deltona.

Deputy Wes Brough yelled, “I got him, I got him,” as he dashed to the little voice.

Then, on the bodycam of another deputy, Brough can be seen sprinting into the knee-deep water, picking up the boy, and holding him firmly while returning him to land.

“Are you okay? What is your name? As he placed the youngster back on the ground, the deputy questioned.

“You wanna go see your parents?” In the video, Brough said as he was picking up the youngster.

The 5-year-old set off an alarm when he fled the house through a second-story door, and his father called the police around 7:30 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

He was nowhere to be seen despite the family and deputies searching the surrounding region. Then, after learning that the autistic boy is drawn to water, investigators began searching for him close to bodies of water.

About twenty minutes after going missing, the youngster was located and given back to his family.

“It was confirmed the family had taken several measures to secure the house, including the alarm on the door that immediately alerted them the boy had gone missing,” the sheriff’s office stated.
