Authorities stated on Sunday that a law enforcement K-9 kicked and screamed as it dragged a Florida prisoner who had pretended to be hurt during a fall in an attempt to get away.
Anthony Romine, 29, was traced by a Flagler County Sheriff’s K-9 team and was discovered on Saturday in a rural area near a gas station. He was concealed by some leaves and bushes, according to the sheriff’s office.
Seven hours after making his getaway, he was apprehended. A K-9 is seen dragging Rommie, who is screaming in pain, in the arrest’s video. It looks like the dog is dragging Romine by his arm in the video.
He can be heard begging the deputies to “get him please!” as they repeatedly told Romine to “stop biting my dog!.”
“Alright, I’ll go,” replies Romine.
“You thought you were going to get away?” a deputy asks him at one point, and he looks to be crying. According to the sheriff’s office, investigators received several calls regarding potential sightings of Romine during his brief escape.
On July 3, Romine was first taken into custody pursuant to a felony warrant for petty theft, violating his release before to trial, and counterfeiting. According to the sheriff’s office, he was in custody when he said he fell and was then transferred to the hospital for treatment.
He feigned his injury, investigators later discovered, in an attempt to flee and return to Ohio, his birthplace, according to police.

“We worked until we got him. I commend our team for staying on his trail, and the community for ‘seeing something, saying something’ until this dirtbag was captured,” Flager County Sheriff Rick Staly stated. “All he accomplished was to add additional arrests to his list of crimes and got bitten by our K-9, who gets a special treat for taking ‘a bite out of crime’ when he tried to flee again. Fortunately, no one was hurt except this dirtbag who was crying after he was caught by our K-9.”
Following his apprehension, Romine was charged with both battery on a law enforcement officer without using force and felony flight.
According to Staly, an inquiry will be launched to find out how the deputy assigned to Romine became sidetracked and allowed Romine to flee.
