JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –AAA says that the price of a gallon of gas in Florida went up by 12 cents last week. On Monday, the average price per gallon in the state was $3.58. AAA data shows that that is the same as the top price for 2023, which was set in late January.
Not only do gas prices go up because of the price hike, but food prices also go up.
Local people who own food trucks are speaking out about how prices are going up. They say that the price hikes are making customers pay more.
“We try to be aware of it, but on the other hand, we have to make sure we stay alive and make some money, you know?” The owner of Jammas Jax, Julio Gonzalez, told News4JAX.
It’s a double whammy for food trucks, because not only do they need to fill up their big tanks when they stop, but their engines also run on gas.
John LaForge, a Wells Fargo employee, told News4JAX that small businesses are feeling the pinch, and prices will keep going up as we move into the summer.
“Well, oil is the one thing that is connected to everything else. Every cost for a food truck will go up because of the input costs. There’s nothing you can do about it, whether it’s your gas or the tire on the truck.
“The food has to get to them somehow, and that uses oil and gasoline,” LaForge said. “At this point, there’s really no way around it. We don’t make enough on a world scale.
When it comes to gasoline and oil, we don’t make enough here in the US. And I know that we want to stop using fossil fuels, especially in the US. Well, that’s already started. We still want a lot of them, though.”
Gas Buddy says that the Citgo in MacClenny has the cheapest gas in the Jacksonville area. It costs $3.25 per gallon. At $3.27, the 76 gas stop on 103rd Street is the second cheapest. Sam’s Club and BJ’s have better deals than both of those places, but you have to be a member to shop there.
