Florida Man's Grisly Laughter Lands Him Behind Bars for 14 Years

A man who collided with an SUV at high speed in 2019, resulting in the death of its driver, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison, as per the Office of Orange-Osceola State Attorney Andrew Bain.

Dean Kornblum, a 26-year-old from Boca Raton, pleaded guilty in September to the October 2019 crash that claimed the life of 36-year-old Angel Dominguez from Sanford. The incident occurred on University Boulevard near Bibb Lane in Orange County.

In a news release, Bain’s office stated that Kornblum was driving at a recorded speed of 142 mph, which was deemed a contributing factor to the crash. The release also mentioned that Kornblum’s blood alcohol content level was .189 “moments after” the accident, more than twice the legal limit in Florida.

The judge took into account Kornblum’s “disturbing statements made when he was taken to the hospital,” as noted by Bain’s office in the statement.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Kornblum laughed loudly and obnoxiously while conversing with staff members at ORMC, where he had been transported for treatment of minor injuries following the crash.

According to FHP documents, Kornblum’s actions included telling staff that “it’s because they put it in his system” and dismissing the possibility that something would be found in his blood early on. Troops also allegedly overheard him telling someone over the phone that he “didn’t need to sober up because this situation was a joke.”
