Along with a guy who police claim assisted her in getting rid of the body outside of an apartment building in South Florida, a lady who is thought to be the mother of a baby found dead in a garbage can earlier this year has also been taken into custody.
According to Hollywood police on Friday night, the man is also accused of unlawfully disposing of a body, and they are both charged with neglecting to report a death.
On January 7, a roofing company employee discovered the full-term baby boy who still had the umbilical cord attached after smelling something bad. A police affidavit states that he called the authorities after discovering the infant inside the trash can in a reusable shopping bag.
Using DNA samples from the shopping bag and text conversations exchanged between the man and woman, police were able to locate the mother after using video footage to identify the owner of a car that had pulled over next to the trash can.
According to the affidavit, an autopsy revealed the infant exhibited no evidence of trauma or injury. The affidavit stated that more testing is necessary to ascertain if the baby was born stillborn or alive before determining the final cause of death.
