Because of the flood of people relocating here from other states, Florida’s population surpassed 23 million residents for the first time this year, according to official demographic estimates.

The state Demographic Estimating Conference produced estimates earlier this month that showed 23,002,597 people living in Florida as of April 1st.

With 39.5 million residents in California and 30.5 million in Texas, Florida is the third most populous state in the union.

According to estimates, Florida welcomed almost 359,000 new residents last year and has been adding between 350,000 and 375,000 new residents annually for the past ten years.

Based on predictions, the population is predicted to peak this year and then decline annually for the remainder of the 2020s as the last group of baby boomers to retire gets smaller.

Florida’s growth rate is predicted to reach 1.6% this year, but by the early 2030s, it will be less than 1%.

Since just before the COVID-19 epidemic began in early 2020, all of Florida’s population increase has come from individuals relocating to the Sunshine State from other US states or overseas. Since late 2019 and early 2020, Florida has had a greater number of deaths than births, and this trend is expected to last well into the upcoming ten years.

Florida has the second-highest percentage of residents over 75 among all U.S. states and territories, after Puerto Rico.
