After routinely stealing and beating fruit stand merchants in Riverside County over the course of three months, two men entered a guilty plea.
Court records show that Edgar Menchaca Martinez and Arturo Romero entered pleas to 22 felonies related to armed robberies against three distinct victims, whom they assaulted and robbed on eleven separate days between November 2023 and January 2024.
As per the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office, they entered a guilty plea to every allegation that was brought against them on Tuesday.
According to John Hall, a DA’s Office spokesman, no plea deal was reached with the prosecution. Romero and Martinez are both expected to be sentenced on July 25.
Riverside police made the announcement of both men’s arrests on January 18. Authorities at the time said that after search warrants were executed, evidence connecting them to the crimes was found.

The police statement stated that there had been robberies on five days, but the court paperwork outlining the allegations also stated that there had been armed robberies on six additional days.
According to court filings, they targeted the third victim three times and robbed and abused two of the fruit merchants four times apiece.
They admitted to using a firearm to threaten and abuse the victims as part of their guilty plea agreements.
