WPBN: On the 18th of December, the state of California will launch a voucher program that will provide qualifying people with a $2,000 voucher that may be used toward the purchase of a new electric bike (e-bike).
The California E-Bike Incentive Project is a statewide incentive program that attempts to offer low-income households more options for environmentally friendly modes of transportation for their commute.
The program was formed in 2021 by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in order to provide support for the larger environmental and equity goals of the state.
A total of 1,500 reward coupons were distributed during the initial timeframe
CalBike claims that the launch of the program has been postponed. The California Regulatory Board (CRB) recently presented a suggested launch schedule that included beginning in the second quarter of 2024 and continuing through August 2025.
However, according to the website for the project, applications will now be accepted beginning on December 18th, and there will be a total of 1,500 incentive coupons distributed during the initial session.
Additional window information will be provided in the future, and the application window will be opened once every three to four months for the foreseeable future.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be residents of California who are at least 18 years old and meet the qualifications for having a low income.
Applicants are required to submit documentation of their residency, verification of their income, and eligibility requirements for education and safety training through the online portal.
Priority applicants are eligible to receive an additional $250 in addition to the base voucher in the amount of $1,750.
Prior to making the purchase of the electric bicycle, applicants are required to get an approval notification along with the incentive coupon, as stated on the website. To be eligible for the incentive, purchases that were made before to receiving these will not be considered.
At an authorized merchant, the voucher can be applied toward the purchase of a qualified electric bicycle as well as accessories such as a helmet, a bike lock, racks, baskets, fenders, mirrors, luminous clothing, and lights.
