After an argument about stolen belongings, a Maryland man stabbing a mother of three 20 times will serve the remainder of his life in prison. The woman was left to bleed to death in her front yard, where a neighbor discovered her body.

The State’s Attorney for Charles County said in a news release that Deanthony Lamont Warrick, 35, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Tuesday in connection with the death of Jasmine Lakesha Hicks, 29. In June, he was found guilty of first-degree murder.

Charles County State’s Attorney Tony Covington was pleased with the result.

“”he decision to seek a LWOP sentence — the most serious penalty in the State of Maryland — is mine and not made lightly,” he stated. “I am gratified that the Court, having heard all the evidence at trial and all the testimony and arguments during sentencing, saw this case the way I did and imposed LWOP. The vicious and callous way he committed this crime, in my mind, says he should never walk free in our community again. He purposefully and permanently erased Jasmine Hicks from this planet — forever. Justice requires he be held accountable. The jury held him accountable with their verdict and the Judge imposed the proper and just sentence we requested.”

The day Hicks died was April 12, 2023. According to authorities, Warrick alleged that certain items had been stolen from him by someone else, and this disagreement led to the stabbing. Warrick started stabbing Hicks in the head, face, neck, shoulders, back, chest, belly, and arms during that altercation. The carnage was captured on a neighboring security camera.

Prosecutors claimed that he was heard on tape saying, “Don’t make me kill you,” while stabbing her.

Following that, Warrick left the fatally injured Hicks in the yard of the 2300 block of Woodberry Drive on Bryans Road. There, she stayed until 6:30 a.m., when a neighbor found her and contacted the police, according to officials.

The next day, Warrick was located by the police, who said he had confessed to the murder. As per the autopsy, Hicks sustained 20 stab wounds. Assistant State’s Attorney Laura Caspar told the court during the sentencing, This case deserves life without parole if I have ever seen one. The accused abandoned her to bleed to death in that dark, isolated yard.

Furthermore, as the surveillance audio makes clear, she did not pass away quickly. She went through a lot before she passed away. This was disgusting, spiteful, and vindictive.

Judge William R. Greer Jr. of the Charles County Circuit Court sentenced the prisoner, saying, “This was a heartless death.” callous and disgusting.”

Hicks, a mother of three, received positive reviews in her obituary.

“The world has lost an incredible young lady who will be deeply missed by all who knew her,” the obituary stated. “She will be remembered for her love of life, and all the wonderful memories she created with her family and friends who loves her so much. We are so grateful and truly blessed to have had her in our lives and we will forever cherish every precious memory. May she rest in peace knowing that she left behind a legacy that will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.”
