On Wednesday, Hallandale Beach police made an arrest of a 21-year-old male who they claim shot and killed a 21-year-old Hollywood woman who was thrown from a car in early March.
According to police, Omar Simpson shot and killed Mikesha Johnson, who would have turned 22 on Thursday, following an altercation at a house party in Hollywood shortly after 4 a.m. on March 5.
Simpson and other males got into an argument over what Michelle Johnson, the victim’s sister, said were stolen goods. Men at the party had threatened to harm Michelle Johnson’s sister if the items weren’t returned, she had revealed back in March.
Subsequently, investigators discovered that Simpson and Mikesha Johnson had met at the party and had driven off together.
Hallandale Beach police were called to a site near U.S. 1 and Pembroke Road early on the morning of the shooting. Witness Lequan Payne told that he witnessed Mikesha Johnson collapse.
Payne stated that after the victim had a severe fall, he went over to see how she was doing. In order to protect her, he then started directing traffic. Later, he found out from other witnesses that Johnson had been thrown from the Acura MDX that Simpson was operating.
Michelle Johnson also stated that immediately after the event, Simpson struck a tree.
Mikesha Johnson was taken to a nearby hospital by the police after the witnesses dialed 911. There, she succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest.
Following her shooting and subsequent fall from her car on Pembroke Road, Mikesha Johnson’s last moments are seen on surveillance footage. Following the car’s collision with a tree, two people are seen fleeing.
According to the police, Simpson, whose photo features the phrase “chosen” neck, is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail in connection with a single charge of first-degree premeditated murder.
