While snorkeling on vacation in Hawaii, an expectant mother from Washington state and her husband perished. The couple, named Ilya and Sophia Tsaruk, was discovered on a GoFundMe page.
Sophia and Ilya Tsaruk were both 25, and 26 years old, according to the Maui County Fire Department.
The Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve on the island of Maui’s north shore was the scene of a call for snorkelers in difficulty on Saturday afternoon, according to firefighters.
Two persons were rescued from the water by first responders, but neither of them was responding. Sadly, although firefighters gave the husband and couple CPR, they were not able to be saved. At the site, both were pronounced dead.
The GoFundMe page states that Sophia Tsaruk is expecting a daughter, who would be the couple’s second child. The couple planned to name their unborn child Melody, and KITV reported that she was due in December.
As stated on the GoFundMe, the 18-month-old kid of the Tsaruks was living with his aunt and uncle at the time of his parents’ passing. The Tsaruks, together with Ilya Tsaruk’s brother and his wife, were on holiday with two other couples when the catastrophe struck.
As well as commemorating their anniversary, the trip was referred to as the Tsaruks’ babymoon. Raising money through the GoFundMe will help with both the cost of the funeral and returning the bodies from Hawaii home.

The post requested for prayers and portrayed the Tsaruks as deeply religious people.
“We are blessed to have had both of them in our lives and are left now with the sweet memories and moments that we shared together with them. Their serving spirit and warm company will never be forgotten, and may God help us all to love and serve one another as Ilya and Sophia served,” as per the page.
