Following a weak debate performance late Thursday that sparked discussion among some Democrats about whether he should be replaced at the top of the ticket, a campaign aide declared that President Biden is “not dropping out” of the 2024 contest.

Seth Schuster, a spokesman for the Biden campaign, texted, “Of course he’s not dropping out.” After the debate, the president himself dismissed discussions about whether or not to concede. He was at a Waffle House.

Democrats strongly disapproved of Biden’s performance at Thursday night’s debate with Trump, and several of them said it will spark discussions about whether the president should be replaced at the top of the Democratic ticket prior to August’s convention.

The president occasionally lost his train of thought or had trouble making his point, and his voice was frequently raspy—a trait the White House later linked to a cold.

“The chatter is very distracting, and it’s going to be very consuming for the campaign,” former Biden press secretary Jen Psaki stated. “Should he be replaced? They’re going to be answering that question instead of breaking through on attacking Trump.”

In addition to highlighting its historic day of grassroots funding, Biden’s team pointed to Trump’s numerous lies and his inability to say he would accept the results of the 2024 election as evidence that the debate did not go well for the Republican.
