The circumstances behind the domestic stabbing incident that occurred in Hialeah last week are more illuminated by an arrest record that Local 10 News was able to obtain on Tuesday.
At approximately three in the morning on July 24, Jose Ivan Mairena, 44, stabbed his ex-girlfriend, with whom he was still living, at their residence in the 4200 block of West 11th Place, according to Hialeah police.
According to the police report, Mairena and the victim, who is 35 years old, split up two months ago after three years of dating. They don’t share any children, but according to the authorities, the victim lives with their 10-year-old son.
The woman reportedly informed police that Mairena had argued with her the previous evening over his desire to get back together. The woman added that following the dispute, she went to sleep in her bed with her son curled up next to her, only to have Mairena turn on the bedroom light and wake her up.
She informed officers that he then approached her and threatened to murder her because he didn’t want her to be with anyone else. Mairena used a big kitchen knife to stab the victim in the middle of her chest, according to the police. According to the police, the victim tried to defend herself against Mairena by yelling at her son to leave the room.
The child reportedly hurried downstairs and went to the kitchen to get a knife. According to the police, Mairena’s left hand was slashed between her thumb and index finger when the mother attempted to take the knife away from her.
She reported to the police that Mairena attempted to stab her again, but she pushed him off of her and onto the ground with the help of both her hands and feet.
The victim reportedly ran downstairs after that and encountered her son, who was carrying the knife he had gotten from the kitchen. The mother and son allegedly left the house through the front door after that, but they were unable to unlock the locked steel iron gate.
Authorities added that the woman then climbed up on top of a nearby little table and assisted her son in getting over the barrier before jumping over it herself.
According to the authorities, a witness who resides in the house ultimately went downstairs after hearing the disturbance and dialed 911. Officers were informed by the victim’s son that he had heard Mairena talking on the phone earlier with a Nicaraguan who had said “matala” (kill her) in Spanish.
The woman was taken, according to the police, to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital to receive medical attention for her wounds. It’s unclear if the hospital has allowed her to go.

Mairena was hospitalized as well, according to the police, after stabbing himself in the neck and chest. Authorities claim that the victim’s son was not hurt.
Following her discharge from the hospital, Mairena was booked into jail on Monday. In addition to child abuse, he is charged with false imprisonment, attempted second-degree murder, and false imprisonment of a minor.
Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center was where he was being kept as of Tuesday afternoon. His link wasn’t yet established.
