According to police, a man nearly struck two cops, led them on a chase, and then collided with other cars. He is now facing several counts.

Michael Taylor was charged with two charges of attempted assault, attempting to evade, and DUI, according to Florence police.

Taylor was seen by an officer running a stop sign at the junction of Decatur Avenue and Courtney Avenue on Friday. After then, the police pulled over a car along Decatur Avenue and Hermitage Drive.

According to the police, while conversing with Taylor, the investigating officer noticed indications of impairment.

Police claim Taylor went back in his car and ran away from the scene as field sobriety tests were being administered. Two officers stepped aside to avoid being struck by Taylor’s car as he ran away.

Taylor was chased south into Colbert County by officers on Helton Drive. The pursuit, according to the police, went south on Wilson Dam Road at above 100 miles per hour.

Taylor reportedly collided with a truck and a semi when he got to Wilson Dam Road and Highway 20. The car then collided with a culvert, repeatedly toppling over.

After being arrested and securing a $10,500 bond, Taylor was eventually freed from custody.
