Hurricane Victims in South Carolina Can Apply for D-SNAP Assistance Starting Now

In order to assist with shopping expenses, residents of South Carolina who were impacted by recent disasters can now apply for the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP).

D-SNAP provides vital assistance to those who might not normally be eligible for conventional SNAP benefits, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced that households in 28 counties and the Catawba Indian Reservation are eligible.

South Carolina D-SNAP Eligibility

Natural disaster-affected people and families are the target audience for D-SNAP, which offers short-term food assistance to those with disaster-related costs. About 357,000 homes are eligible in South Carolina.

In order to be eligible, applicants must meet specific income requirements and provide proof of hurricane-related costs, such as temporary relocation or property damage.

Dates and Application Procedure

South Carolina will provide both online and in-person D-SNAP applications to residents. The precise timeframes are as follows:

  • Applications for Virtual Environments: November 12–November 21, 2024
  • Applications in Person: December 2–December 13, 2024

Eligible households may apply at certain times at specific in-person locations or online at the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS). Residents affected by power outages or internet problems can still get help thanks to these flexible solutions.
