A lotto ticket that an Illinois woman purchased at the grocery store and completely forgot about earned her $1 million.

The Illinois Lottery reports that the unnamed woman picked up a lottery ticket on a whim while she was shopping at a grocery store in Elmhurst, Illinois, on October 20.

The fortunate woman informed lottery officials, “While on my way to visit my aunt, I made a quick stop at Jewel to pick up a few groceries, and before heading out the door, I grabbed a quick pick Lucky Day Lotto ticket.”

After that, she forgot she had a ticket at all and continued living her life, putting the ticket in her pocketbook.

According to lottery organizers, the woman matched all five of the numbers in that Sunday night’s drawing, which were 2-3-24-25-28. However, it would take her a few days to realize that she had simply hit the motherlode.

“A couple days after the drawing, I saw the ticket in my purse and opened my lottery app to scan my ticket and check if it was a winner,” the Illinois woman stated to the Illinois Lottery.

“I immediately saw “$1,000,000” on the screen and I was in total shock. I scanned the ticket one more time to double-check, and when it showed “$1,000,000″ again, I instantly started crying. I thought, ‘This is unbelievable.'”

The woman said she is most excited to be able to afford her annual trip she takes to Ireland.

This is the ninth Illinois Lottery player this year to win $1 million or more with Lucky Day Lotto, according to the Illinois Lottery.
