According to the local county coroner’s office, a flight instructor lost their life in a helicopter crash at Fort Novosel in Alabama on Wednesday afternoon, while an Army student pilot suffered injuries.
The AH-64 Apache helicopter went down during standard flight training, according to Dale County Coroner John Cawley.
The helicopter’s pilot, a flight instructor, perished in the collision. The student pilot, who was the only passenger, received minor medical attention at a hospital.
The commanding general of Fort Novosel and the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, Maj. Gen. Clair A. Gill, stated in a statement to news sources, “Our primary concern is the welfare and health of the student pilot and care and concern for the family of the deceased.”
The accident is being looked into, according to the statement. For updates, Fox News Digital has contacted the Army installation. Alabama lawmakers expressed their condolences on X.
Representer Barry Moore of Alabama stated in a letter that he and his spouse were “heartbroken” to learn about the collision.
“We are praying for a swift recovery for the student pilot who was injured, and comfort for the loved ones of the instructor who passed away,” Moore stated.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for the Wiregrass and our entire state. Wesley and I are praying for those affected, especially for the instructor’s family and for the student pilot’s recovery,” Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., stated on X. “Our hearts go out to the entire community at Fort Novosel.”
The senator from Alabama, Tommy Tuberville, wrote that he was “deeply saddened to hear about the fatal helicopter crash.”
“Please join me in praying for the mourning family and friends of the instructor who passed away. We are also praying for a full recovery for the injured student,” Tuberville stated.
Fort Rucker was the previous name of Fort Novosel. It serves as the main training ground for helicopter pilots in the Army.
