Jacksonville Police Shoot Wanted Suspect From Broward County During Arrest

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a guy who was wanted in connection with a murder investigation in Broward County was shot by police in Jacksonville on Friday evening after they attempted to detain him. The incident occurred in Jacksonville.

According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (JSO), the incident can be traced back to a murder investigation that took place around a week earlier. In order to receive assistance with the investigation, officials from Broward County reached out to JSO.

JSO stated that a search warrant was acquired, and they discovered a firearm in both a residence and a car during their investigation. That information was communicated to the authorities in Broward County so that they may carry on with their investigation.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warrant for the arrest of a guy in connection with the investigation as of Thursday. In an effort to make an arrest, the JSO’s SWAT squad began pursuing the man on Friday and eventually spotted him in the parking lot of the Village Shopping Center, which is located on Park Avenue.

JSO reported that cops had halted the dark-colored sedan in question and given him instructions to exit the vehicle. The man reportedly told the officers that he “was not getting out of the car” and asked them to shoot him. This information comes from the JSO.

Officers repeated their request over and over again for the man to exit the car. According to the JSO, the suspect then pointed a gun at the officers, which prompted the officers to “eliminate the threat.” The individual did not shoot at the officers in an aggressive manner.

During the news briefing, Sheriff T.K. Waters stated that deputies do not have to wait until they are fired at before confronting a suspect. “They do not have to wait,” Waters said. “If he raises a handgun, he points at them, at that point, they are able to use deadly force.”

Despite the fact that the man was reportedly given medical attention, he succumbed to his wounds and died.

Nobody in the police force was hurt.

In accordance with the policies of the organization, the two officers have been placed on administrative leave. An investigation is currently being carried out by the State Attorney’s Office.

This is the seventh shooting that has involved an officer so far in 2018. According to JSO, this is both officers’ second time being involved in a shooting while on duty.

During the incident, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office was helped by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Orange Park Police Department.
