A district court judge’s murder is the subject of a charge against a Kentucky sheriff.
The Letcher County Courthouse reportedly called 9-1-1 at 2:55 on Thursday afternoon stating that bullets were being fired within the structure. This information is according to Kentucky State Police.
Upon their arrival at the scene, numerous law enforcement agencies and emergency medical services discovered 54-year-old District Judge Kevin Mullins suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
According to KSP, attempts were made but not successful at saving lives. Mullins was declared dead at the scene by the coroner’s office for Letcher County.
According to the KSP’s initial investigation, Mullins was shot by Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Mickey Stines, 43, after a dispute inside the courthouse.
They claim that Stines was apprehended at the site without any problems. One count of first-degree murder has been brought against Stines. The inquiry is still going strong:
Mullins served as an assistant commonwealth attorney for nine and a half years prior to being appointed by Governor Steve Beshear in 2009. He prosecuted drug-related cases as his main area of expertise. When Mullins was a judge, he became well-known for treating drug addicts rather than locking them up.

Letcher County Sheriff Stines was chosen in 2018 and then again in 2022.
Attorney General Russell Coleman revealed on social media that he and Jackie Steele, the commonwealth’s attorney for the 27th Judicial Circuit, will work together as special prosecutors in this case.
