Kansas Lawmakers Pass Resolution in Support of Texas Border

The Kansas Senate has approved SR 1737, a resolution endorsing the border defense efforts of Texas Governor Greg Abbott. During the Senate session, there was deliberation among senators regarding the resolution’s wording.

Senate Minority Leader Dinah Sykes of Lenexa suggested an amended version, but the proposal was dismissed, and the original resolution was ultimately adopted.

Senator Mike Thompson, a Republican from Shawnee, expressed concern that the proposed amendment could lead to ambiguity in the resolution’s language.

He emphasized the significance of supporting Texas, citing insufficient federal government action in addressing illegal immigration.

“I believe Governor Abbott needs to understand there are other states who are standing with him and that will step up,” Thompson stated. “Because the federal government, the 50 states, should be doing it through the federal protection of the border, which is not happening, not coming from the federal government.”

Governor Laura Kelly is urged by the resolution to act in Governor Abbott’s favor.
