Kari Lake Expresses Doubts Over Fairness of 2024 Election

Kari Lake, an Arizona senatorial candidate, again dabbled in election denial tactics that could have jeopardized her candidacy for governor in 2022 when she stated that she is not “all that confident” that the 2024 election will be fair.

Lake expressed her extreme opposition to initiatives that promote voter registration at the time of Medicare and Medicaid enrollment. She suggested that these efforts could be part of a plot to produce forged ballots.

“What they want is to have a line in the voter rolls so that somebody can vote for that person,” she stated regarding the idea. “And that’s why they’re asking them to register to vote when they get set up for Medicare and Medicaid, because they’re giving them all of these services. They’re asking them to sign up to vote. Then they have a line in the voter roll, and somebody will vote under that name.”

Lake went on to say that she is “absolutely, one thousand percent” certain that the plan is meant to provide illegal immigrants the ability to vote in the 2024 election.

A conspiracy theory held by white supremacists called the “great replacement theory” has always been linked to allegations of noncitizens voting. No evidence of noncitizens casting ballots in any appreciable number in any recent election has been found.

She stated that she “wouldn’t be all that confident” in a fair result in the 2024 election when given her thoughts on the matter.

The tone is reminiscent of her unsuccessful bid for governor of Arizona in 2022, during which she made repeated, unfounded allegations that the 2020 election was rigged. After Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) defeated her, she also denied losing the election herself.

The remarks have regularly drawn attention from the legal community to Lake and her campaign. She lost her defense in a defamation lawsuit filed this year by a state elections official alleged fraud schemes, and her lawyers were compelled to pay thousands in penalty for filing false lawsuits.

The majority of the body is at stake in what is anticipated to be one of the closest Senate contests in the nation between Lake and Rep. Ruben Gallego (D) of Arizona.
