A woman from Key West lost her life in a boat accident in the Lower Florida Keys. State fish and wildlife authorities are looking into the incident.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has identified the victim as Misty Dawn Wildmon, who was 46 years old.
On Friday, Wildmon was one of seven people who were on a boat that was 22 feet in length and crashed with a channel marker as it was attempting to return to a marina located on Stock Island.
Upon collision with the marker, she was ejected from the boat and left floating in the water.
She was extracted from the water by the rescue squad, and despite their best efforts, she was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after their arrival.
Details about the crash, such as the exact time it occurred, whether others were injured, and if alcohol played a role, have not been provided by the fish and wildlife authorities.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Wildmon’s family. She is survived by three children and a grandchild.
