On Monday morning, a raccoon dropped from the ceiling at a gate at LaGuardia Airport in New York, giving passengers a serious wake-up call before they could board the aircraft.
In a social media video, a raccoon is seen clinging on a cable that is suspended from the ceiling during a chaotic animal scene at a Spirit Airlines gate.
The creature eventually lets off, and as it flees across the floor, bewildered tourists can hear it howling. Before officials relocated the raccoon outside, it ran around the gate for almost five minutes, according to the social media user who recorded the incident on camera.
“To ensure a positive experience for our LGA Guests, we immediately notified the facilities team and are addressing the matter with a professional wildlife control company,” Spirit Airlines stated.
According to the New York and New Jersey Port Authority, the event happened at approximately 8 a.m.
The Port Authority reported that there were no more sightings of the raccoon after it was securely found and released outside. There were no reported injuries.
“To ensure safety, airport staff is working closely with a professional wildlife control company to monitor the area, identify potential entry points, and implement necessary precautions,” according to the Port Authority. “Ongoing inspections and follow-up efforts are in place to prevent further incidents.”
