The Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana reports that a deputy sheriff died after coming into touch with power lines.
Following a single-vehicle crash outside Plainfield, Indiana, late on Monday, April 15, Deputy Fred Fislar suffered critical injuries, according to a statement given by Sheriff Jack Sadler at a press conference published by NBC affiliate WTHR.
The Officer Down Memorial Page states that Fislar was electrocuted while “investigating a crash scene at State Road 267 and County Road 300 South” after coming into contact with live wires.
According to the Kansas City Star and WTHR, the sheriff’s office claimed that a driver damaged a utility pole, leaving electrical lines hanging low beside the automobile.
According to Sadler during the news conference, a driver noticed the deputy down at 11:57 p.m. local time and utilized his radio to alert dispatch to the incident.
He said that Fislar suffered injuries “after sustaining injuries from coming into contact” with the electrical lines and was sent to Eskenazi Hospital in severe condition.

Tuesday, April 16, just before one in the morning, Fislar passed away “despite all life-saving measures,” according to Sadler.
Before his passing, Fislar had been employed with the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office for more than two years. The sheriff claims that he leaves behind a wife and two kids. According to the Star, Fislar joined the HCSO in 2021 after serving as a Marine in the past.
According to FOX station WXIN, police escorted Fislar’s body to the Marion County Coroner’s Office, where he was observed until he could be taken to the Hendricks County Coroner’s Office.
“An officer or Hendricks County Sheriff’s Deputy will stand and stay with Deputy Fislar from now until the time he is laid to rest,” declared Rick Snyder, president of the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police.
According to Deputy Chief Joe Aldridge, the driver of the vehicle that collided with the power pole was also taken to Eskenazi Hospital with critical injuries, as reported by WTHR. It’s unknown how they are doing right now.
