A 42-year-old man from Miami Gardens was detained Tuesday after shooting his nephew many times, authorities said.
Miami Gardens police said that shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, they were called to the 2500 block of Northwest 161st Street in response to reports of a male victim who had been shot numerous times.
Authorities claim that after the victim and suspect drew pistols and exchanged blows, the suspect shot, hitting his nephew. Since then, Jaquane Lawayne Ealey has been recognized as the suspect.
Ealey contacted 911 to report the shooting, according to the report on his arrest.
According to the police, Ealey was standing outside a house when they arrived at the site. Blood could be seen flowing from the house’s inside onto the front porch.
According to the report, when police entered the house, they discovered Ealey’s gun on a table and put him into the back of a patrol car. The report states that further blood and multiple spent casings were discovered in the home’s kitchen area.
Following the shooting, according to the police, the victim sprinted across Northwest 27th Avenue and made three 911 calls. He had multiple gunshot wounds to the midsection of his body and one bullet wound to his arm when the officers discovered him covered in blood.

The victim—whose name has not been made public—was taken to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital and was given a critical status assessment. Ealey gave a statement to detectives, according to the arrest report, but it was removed from the report that was made available to the public.
Ealey is charged with one count of second-degree murder attempt. He was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Wednesday afternoon.
