Authorities verified that during an attempted robbery at a Dollar Tree in Miami on Monday morning, a manager and two staff received knife threats.

Just after nine in the morning, the suspect—who Miami police have identified as 28-year-old Marcos Yoan Rodriguez—attempted to enter the Dollar Tree, which is situated at 2905 NW 27th Ave., carrying a backpack.

Rodriguez was told by the store manager—whose name was withheld from the public in the arrest report—that he was not permitted to bring a backpack inside the establishment.

Rodriguez allegedly left the business after that, made his way to a red Cadillac Escalade in the parking lot, and came back without the bag, according to Miami police.

Reentering the store, Rodriguez went to the frozen food department and filled a shopping basket with many goods, as per the report.

Rodriguez then tried to exit the store, according to the complaint, walking past the cash counter without paying for the products that were still in the basket.

Rodriguez was challenged by the manager and two other employees as he was leaving the business, according to the police.

Then, Rodriguez intimidated the staff by removing his shirt to display a silver kitchen knife and yelling, “Don’t get close.” I’ll chop you up,” the cops reported.

The second worker also remembered the suspect warning them not to approach. I’m armed, the police declared.

Investigators said that after leaving the business, Rodriguez entered the Cadillac’s front passenger seat and drove away. According to authorities, the store manager was able to get four images of the evading vehicle, one of which clearly displayed the license plate.

Shortly after the event, according to the authorities, Miami Police Department tactical robbery investigators were able to locate the vehicle and discovered Rodriguez inside the front passenger seat.

A silver kitchen knife was also found, according to detectives, behind the car’s front passenger tire. Authorities also confirmed that a witness who was familiar with Rodriguez was able to recognize him from a surveillance video still image.

Authorities said that Rodriguez was apprehended without any problems.

According to jail records, he is charged with one count of armed robbery with a firearm or other lethal weapon. As of Tuesday afternoon, Rodriguez was not listed as a prisoner on the Miami-Dade jail website.
