Marco Rubio Vows to Reject 2024 Election Results if Unfair

Sen. Marco Rubio, a Republican from Florida, declared on Sunday that he would not pledge to recognize the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, stating that his party would “go to court and point out the fact that states are not following their own election laws” “if it’s unfair.”

Rubio made his remarks on Meet the Press at a time when he is regarded as one of the front-runners for vice president in Donald Trump’s campaign. Trump has falsely claimed repeatedly that the 2020 election was rigged.

These assertions served as the impetus for the uprising on January 6, 2021, when activists stormed the Capitol as parliamentarians were in the process of accrediting the election results. Trump is accused of tampering in the election, which is the subject of numerous charges.

“Will you accept the election results of 2024, no matter what happens, senator?” anchor Kristen Welker posed the question. In response, Rubio said “No matter what happens? No.”

“If it’s an unfair election, I think it’s going to be contested … by either side.”

Welker persisted in pressing Rubio to clarify if he would challenge the outcome “no matter who wins.”

“Well, I think you’re asking the wrong person,” Rubio stated. “The Democrats are the ones that have opposed every Republican victory since 2000, every single one.”

Welker made it clear time and again that Democrats who disagreed with the outcome of the election nonetheless conceded. Rubio, on the other hand, kept asking if Welker had posed the same query to Democrats.

Rubio, who did validate the results of the 2020 election and stated that “people’s confidence in the election and their willingness to abide by its results” that day, declined to directly address the question of whether Trump’s refusal to accept the election results contributed to a decline in public confidence in democracy.

Additionally, he declined to condemn Trump for his remarks regarding Florida’s six-week abortion prohibition, in which he described the legislation as a “terrible thing, a terrible mistake” even though he had also frequently taken credit for repealing the federal protection for abortion.

“I support any bill that protects unborn human life, but I don’t consider other people in the pro life movement who have a different view to be apostate,” Rubio stated. “They just have a different view about the best way to approach this issue. We are not like the Democrats where, unless you are in favor of their bills that basically say, ‘Let’s just put in all this fancy language, but it’s not meaningful in terms of any restrictions.'”

“I think anyone who’s offered that job, to serve this country in the second highest office, assuming everything else in your life makes sense at that moment, if you’re interested in serving the country, it’s an incredible place to serve,” he said, sounding evasive when asked if he would accept to be Trump’s running mate in the 2024 presidential election.
