Many Minnesotans had the opportunity to apply for a $1,300 stimulus check rebate in August. The Minnesota Department of Revenue is making this payment as part of a program to redistribute money to taxpayers who at first chose not to cash their checks.

Many cheques were distributed as part of a tax refund last year, but it was found that about 128,000 of them were never deposited. The department has chosen to issue fresh checks in order to guarantee that the intended recipients receive their money, as the old checks have now expired.

Rebate stimulus plans akin to the $1,300 payments made in Minnesota:

A number of states have passed legislation allowing residents to receive tax rebates, with payouts varying from $250 to $1,700 per individual. Important details regarding refund schemes in other states:

  • Maine: $850 payments ($1,700 for joint filers) are available to taxpayers whose AGI is less than $100,000.
  • Massachusetts: Based on 2021 income between $38,000 and $100,000 for individuals and up to $150,000 for couples, a one-time reimbursement of $250 for single people and $500 for married couples is proposed. Workers with low incomes have already received separate $500 stimulus cheques.
  • Residents in Alaska and New Mexico receive income from their oil revenues.

Thus far, rebate laws have been approved in 19 states.

What is the stimulus check rebate of $1,300?

The application for the Minnesota Property Tax Refund (M1PR) must be submitted by August 15th. Applications that have been submitted for refunds will be handled by late September or early October. The reimbursement will be handled within 60 days if the application is received after the deadline.

Furthermore, with a budget close to $1 billion, this program has so far provided about 2.1 million payouts. This program is being implemented in accordance with the May 2023 Act, which was based on tax information from the fiscal year 2021.

The Department of Revenue chose to reprint these checks in February 2024 after payments stopped in November 2023 due to a large number of uncashed checks. About 128,000 overdue payments are being covered by the checks that are currently being resent to people who have not yet cashed them.

How to proceed if your check is missing?

Verify that your address is current in the Minnesota Department of Revenue’s database if you haven’t received your check. To find out the status of your refund, get in touch with them directly.

It is advised to electronically submit your application in order to speed up the reimbursement procedure. This can result in quicker processing and a refund that arrives within 60 days of the submission.
