A 58-year-old man was taken into custody on Monday, according to Miami-Dade police, after he allegedly stole several checks totaling more than $6,000 from the eatery he worked as a cook.
Luis Alberto Milian, a Miami resident, is accused with grand theft, uttering a false instrument or check, and organizing a scheme to defraud.
The victim told police, according his arrest record, that on July 26 exclusively, Milian failed to show up for work at the café at 1657 NW 79th Ave. in Doral. He also did not pick up when his manager phoned him on the phone.
The victim reported to detectives that on August 1, when he was inside his office at the company, he noticed many checks were missing and reached for his business checkbook, which was stored in a desk drawer.
The victim allegedly found out that Milian had illegally cashed all but one of the checks when he went to the bank right away to ask about the missing checks. According to investigators, a total of $6,300 was taken out of the checks.
According to police, a guy known only as Ruben Marin, 60, cashed the other check and is still at large. The victim contacted police and acquired copies of the checks, according to the report.

According to the police, the cheques were cashed at Presidente Check Cashing, a check cashing business.
According to the story, detectives were able to collect security footage from the shop, which revealed both suspects cashing the checks. Cuban national Milian was taken into custody at his residence on Monday.
According to the police, he gave them a written confession. Milian was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Tuesday afternoon without being required to post a $15,000 bond.
