After bringing a 2-year-old kid to the hospital with serious injuries, a 45-year-old Miami-Dade County lady was taken into custody last Friday, according to the authorities.
In her arrest report, Erika Maria Castro-Mairena stated to the hospital staff that the girl had hurt herself on August 16 after falling three steps.
Medical professionals, according to Miami-Dade police, found that the woman had infected bruises on different regions of her face, was bleeding from both of her eyes and ears, and had two fractures to her arm that were mending in different ways.
The injuries did not fit Castro-Mairena’s account of how the girl was hurt, medical personnel told the police.
A witness informed authorities, as per her arrest report, that Castro-Mairena was the sole person tending to the victim’s injuries. The nature of Castro-Mairena’s relationship with the victim is not stated in the report.
Castro-Mairena, according to the police, was taken to the Midwest station and there she cited her right to remain silent without a counsel present when speaking with detectives.
