After he allegedly threw ten newborn puppies out the back of his car in the middle of the night two weeks ago, a guy from Mission Viejo may soon be charged with animal cruelty.
The defendant is accused of throwing the puppies into some bushes next to the road that leads to the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center on July 24 around 2:30 in the morning. According to the shelter, this is “coyote country.”
A few hours later, a volunteer dog walker found them in a plastic puppy feces. The animals were taken inside right away by the personnel, who then gave them medical attention and placed them in foster homes.
The owner’s whereabouts were investigated by Animal Services. Initially, they viewed security footage that appeared to show the perpetrator throwing the dogs, but failed to record the license plate.

That setback notwithstanding, the next day detectives located a car that fit the description and recognized a potential suspect. It was discovered by the authorities during the suspect’s interview that he had left the newborn puppies behind. They also took hold of the mother dog and put her back with her pups.
The individual will be charged by the department with animal cruelty by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. The mother and her pups are doing well and will soon be up for adoption.
Animal Services informed pet owners that they can get in touch with other organizations to see if they can assist with pet care, even if there isn’t room at their shelter.
