Following a police pursuit, Jennifer Delgado, 32, of Texas, was found driving a car that was discovered in a tiny ditch with five children, including two infants, abandoned inside. She is now being charged criminally.

According to Fox station KWKT, the chase started on August 11 at approximately 8:45 p.m. when McLennan County Sheriffs were called in to investigate a domestic dispute at a property on Martin Drive.

There was a loud fight between a couple that was heard, and witnesses would later phone the police to report that one of the people they thought was engaged in the fight had crashed their car in front of a house and driven away, according to KWTX.

The car, which was reportedly driven by Delgado, was quickly seen speeding along Bob Johnson Road in China Spring, according to the sheriffs.

When an officer tried to stop the woman by turning on his police lights and sirens, she did not react. Instead, they said, she took off down China Spring Road, forcing police to halt their pursuit for a short while.

Sheriffs claim that after noticing that Delgado had multiple children in the car, which were visible through the windows, they decided to end the pursuit.

Sheriffs reported that a deputy saw Delgado’s maroon Ford SUV in a tiny ditch not long after. Delgado was not in the automobile, which was now off East Cougar Lane.

Deputies said that only three kids and two newborns were inside the SUV when they got close and started looking around. There were child car seats in the second row of the car, but it wasn’t obvious from the first reports whether any kids—especially the small ones—were buckled up in them as they were being chased.

When the cops spotted the car, the lights had also been turned off. A team of emergency medical technicians evaluated each child. According to reports from the police, one child complained of arm pain, while another indicated they were having headaches.

A sworn statement purportedly revealed that “three of the children stated their mommy was driving fast.”

After the crash, police claimed to have received a call regarding Delgado that proved helpful in locating her. The 32-year-old woman was reportedly seen “freaking out” in her backyard and telling the witness that she had to get back in her SUV.

After being taken into custody and registered at the McLennan County Jail on August 10, Delgado’s name has been removed from the jail’s publicly accessible records. She faces accusations of escaping from a police officer, abandoning or putting in risk a kid, and avoiding arrest or imprisonment.
