A suspect in a supposedly random face-slashing crime in a trendy area of New York City has been taken into custody by authorities.
Fox News Digital received confirmation from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) that Joshua Zinberg, 25, had been arrested at midday on Thursday.
Zinberg, a resident of New York City’s Upper West Side, was identified by authorities after his mother recognized him in police-released surveillance film.
In addition to first- and second-degree assault, the NYPD charged him with second-degree attempted murder and fourth-degree criminal possession of a firearm.
Video captured Zinberg exiting the police precinct on Thursday. During an absurd tirade, the 25-year-old can be seen in the video spitting at reporters.
He said to reporters, “You do it for the clicks, huh?” Following the incident, Zinberg’s mother told authorities that she recognized her son on security footage, leading to Zinberg’s arrest.
Zinberg was captured on camera rushing through the streets of New York City while brandishing a knife.
A 55-year-old tourist was attacked in broad daylight while strolling around the streets of New York City, according to earlier confirmation from authorities.
The tourist suffered cuts to his left cheek and ear during the gruesome assault, according to the NYPD. After the stabbing, the victim was taken to a hospital.
Video captured the sidewalk covered in blood after the incident.

Two days prior to Wednesday’s slashing, a guy brandishing a knife was accused of killing three people on Monday.
Career criminal Ramon Rivera, 51, was taken into custody by police earlier this week after he allegedly carried out an unprovoked stabbing spree throughout Manhattan.
Homeless and with eight previous charges, Rivera had been freed from prison only weeks before the deadly knife-wielding attacks.
