North Miami Library Fight Escalates into Assault Teen Injured, Mother Faces Charges

Authorities reported Wednesday that a mother is being charged with assaulting a teenager during a fight between her daughter and another person outside the North Miami Public Library on Monday.

Investigators say that after discovering that her 15-year-old daughter had been in a fight earlier that day, 39-year-old Merline Diegue Pierre went to the library, which is situated at 835 NE 132nd Street, at approximately 4 p.m.

Diegue Pierre and her daughter reportedly confronted the second 15-year-old who was involved in the altercation outside the library, according to North Miami police.

Authorities claim that following a verbal dispute, Diegue Pierre did nothing to break up the brawl and the two adolescents started fighting again.

Diegue Pierre allegedly grabbed the girl by the hair and slammed her to the ground when the 15-year-old onlooker attempted to break up the altercation.

After taking off her shoes, the mother allegedly charged at the adolescent and started striking her in the face before throwing her to the ground and carrying on the attack, according to the police.

According to authorities, witnesses recorded the incident on their cellphones and on surveillance cameras. Diegue Pierre visited the North Miami police station on Tuesday for an interview, according to police confirmation.

She allegedly acknowledged being at the site after being informed of her Miranda rights and provided a statement that was removed from her arrest report, which was made public.
