WPBN: According to the authorities, a guy from Brentwood, New York was taken into custody after he was accused of driving at a fast speed while under the influence of drugs on the Long Island Expressway (LIE).
This allegedly led to a collision that resulted in a police officer suffering critical injuries.
According to court records, the defendant, who has been identified as Cody Fisher and is 29 years old, is being charged with various offenses, including driving while under the influence of drugs, assault in the second degree, unlawful escape of a police officer in a motor vehicle in the second degree, and reckless driving.
On Sunday evening, about six o’clock, the event took place on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway (LIE).
Officer Brendon Gallagher of the Highway Patrol was conducting a routine traffic stop when a 2021 Ford Mustang drove by at an abnormally high rate of speed, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
An officer named Gallagher, who is a member of the Street Takeover Task Force, replied to the vehicle that was traveling at an excessive speed by turning on the lights and sirens of his patrol car in an effort to bring the driver to a stop.
Fisher, the driver of the Mustang, was said to have lost control of his vehicle when the police were pursuing him, according to the police. An accident occurred when his vehicle collided with the police car driven by Officer Gallagher, forcing the vehicle to go off the highway and roll over.
Additionally, the Mustang did not stay on the roadway and ended up colliding with a light post.
A person who is not on duty At the time of the collision, a Nassau County Police officer was just passing by the location where the accident occurred. With the assistance of the off-duty officer, Fisher was able to be taken into custody at the scene of the incident.

As a result of the collision, Officer Gallagher sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for medical treatment.
Fisher, who had sustained injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore before receiving medical attention.

This past Monday, Fisher was brought before the First District Court in Central Islip, where he entered a plea of not guilty to the accusations that were brought against him.
It was not immediately possible to obtain any other information regarding the ongoing legal processes or any additional updates regarding Officer Gallagher’s condition.
