A woman from Manhattan says she was sprayed with a “scalding beverage” while traveling from JFK Airport to Cairo.
Esraa Hezain, 35, is suing EgyptAir for $5 million after she was “burned” on February 18 by a boiling liquid in a “lidless cup” of tea that flew off a “defective” seat tray, according to federal court documents filed in Brooklyn.
According to the lawsuit, “significant turbulence” occurred on the flight “almost immediately after service” of the beverage, and the flight crew “failed to suspend service prior to the turbulence or issue a warning of the impending turbulence.”
Hezain’s lawsuit alleges that several of the aircraft’s seatback tray tables, including her own, were in a “state of disrepair.”
According to the allegation, Hezain “did not maintain a level position when deployed.”
Hezain was “seriously” and “permanently” injured in the collision.
According to Hezain’s lawyer, Abram Bohrer, she sustained second-degree burns to her lower belly, right inner thigh, and buttocks.
“For the price of a lid this didn’t have to happen,” he stated.
